The Stories of ZOOP - Journey to the AFLW with Gabby Seymour

“Try hard, do your best, do what you can, put the work in. That’s always been ingrained in me… there’s no substitute for hard work”

From national volleyball talent in her junior sporting career to the least experienced football player at tryouts, to 3rd on the best and fairest list at Richmond - Gabby Seymour is an inspiration for anyone that has a passion and is ready to lean into their identity.

I’ve known Gabby for years as a physiotherapist and also the partner of our very own - Nick Callanan. As much as she is a talented athlete, she’s a caring physiotherapist and genuinely great human being. I’ve admired not only Gabby’s work ethic but also her partnership with Nick that shines through in this interview!

Get ready for some damn wholesomeness in this one.

In this interview I learned that

  • There is no replacement for reps or hard work in any endeavour

  • Being an elite athlete is as much putting in the work physically and mentally as it is to be talented

  • Curiosity drives the pursuit of the work

  • Seeking psychology is not just for when you’re feeling down - it can aid just as much in performance as anything else.

  • The idea of work and adversity is all down to perception. When we embrace it, enjoy it and give into growth - hard things become part of the adventure

  • Physical & mental performance also hinges on the connection we have with those that support us

Hope y’all enjoy this one as much as I had being a part of it.

In gratitude,

Jerome
